James E. Smith Jr. served as a member of the South Carolina General Assembly for 22 years, representing the citizens of Richland County in the South Carolina House of Representatives. Lieutenant Colonel, South Carolina Army National Guard
James E. Smith Jr. holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the South Carolina Army National Guard. From February 2007 until July 2008, he was deployed as an infantry officer in Afghanistan with the 218th Brigade Combat Team — one of the largest deployments of South Carolina National Guard troops since World War II. His military service instilled the discipline, resilience, and commitment to mission that define his approach to every case.
